There’s something special about beef short ribs. When they’re cooked right, they’re tender, juicy, and packed with deep flavour.

Now add a sweet and savoury Hawaiian-style marinade with pineapple juice, ginger, garlic, and a glossy finish… and you’ve got a dinner that feels restaurant-worthy but is completely doable at home.

These Hawaiian Beef Short Ribs are bold, sticky, slightly smoky, and perfectly balanced. Serve them over rice with a side of kimchi, and suddenly your weeknight feels like a tropical escape.

🛒 Ingredients

For the Ribs

  • Nutrafarms beef short ribs
  • Olive oil (for frying)
  • Cornstarch (for slurry)
  • Water (for slurry)

For the Marinade

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • Tiny dash liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • ¼ white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For Serving (Optional)

  • White rice
  • Kimchi

🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Marinade

In a large bowl or container, combine all marinade ingredients except the ribs. Mix well and taste. Adjust if needed. You’re looking for sweet, salty, and just a hint of smoky depth.

2. Marinate the Ribs

Add the Nutrafarms beef short ribs and toss until fully coated. Cover and refrigerate overnight for best results.

3. Bring to Room Temperature

Remove the ribs from the fridge about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps them cook evenly.

4. Sear the Ribs

Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook ribs for 2–3 minutes per side until a deep caramelized crust forms.

👉 Do not crowd the pan. Work in batches if needed.

Remove and let rest for 5 minutes.

5. Cook the Sauce

Pour the leftover marinade into the same skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–5 minutes.

6. Thicken the Sauce

Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly stir it into the simmering sauce until it thickens and turns glossy.

Remove from heat.

7. Serve

Plate the short ribs and spoon the thick Hawaiian sauce over top. Serve with warm white rice and kimchi, or your favourite vegetables.
